Our Family Farm
Growing no-spray blueberries, Concord grapes, and summer vegetables
Welcome to Hickory Hill Farm and thank you for visiting us online!
Hickory Hill Farm is run by Hannah Johnson, Tom Brenneman, and Margaret Wenger Johnson featuring no-spray blueberries, raw honey, summer vegetables, Concord grapes, and sweet sorghum. Celebrating over 45 years of living and farming near Keezletown, Virginia next to Massanutten Mountain!
Samuel and Margaret Wenger Johnson began farming at their Keezletown farm in 1978, naming it Hickory Hill Farm for the many hickory trees growing on the hillsides.
While clearing land for crops, building a house and barn and growing summer vegetables for wholesale and retail, they began planting their peaches, grapes, and blueberries. Along with raising crops, they also raised two children, Bart and Hannah, who grew up working on the farm and selling at the Harrisonburg Farmers’ Market, which Samuel had helped to establish in 1979.
Over the years the blueberries became a main focus of the farm and we began offering Pick-Your-Own opportunities. As Samuel faced illness and passed away in 2017, Hannah took over operation of Hickory Hill Farm, and was joined by her partner Tom Brenneman in 2022 as co-operator. Margaret continues to live on the farm and help out as needed during the blueberry season.
For over 13 years Grant Bentz, mentored by Samuel, served as our farm manager. His talents and diligent care for the land, vineyard and blueberries helped sustain the vibrant farm we have today.
We as a family continue to enjoy our connections with the land, our neighbors, friends and you, our customers!
We look forward to having you visit the farm during our you-pick season or meeting us at The Harrisonburg Farmers Market.
